TRC4 TO HOLD INAUGURAL UT SYSTEM TRAUMA RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM

Symposium seeks to promote collaboration on cutting-edge trauma research.

WHAT:
The Trauma Research and Combat Casualty Care Collaborative (TRC4) will host its inaugural
University of Texas System Trauma Research Symposium which seeks to promote
collaboration on lifesaving and cutting-edge trauma research that serves both civilian and
military communities across Texas and beyond. The symposium will showcase the exceptional
trauma-related research being conducted by faculty across the UT System, facilitate the
exchange of new ideas for research, and present the opportunity to build new professional
partnerships.

“This symposium will bring together experts, researchers, practitioners, and advocates from
across the UT System and the Department of Defense to delve into the multifaceted
dimensions of trauma and its impact on individuals and communities,” said Dr. James Bynum,
executive director of TRC4. “This conference underscores the critical need for collaborative
efforts and interdisciplinary approaches in addressing the complexities of trauma.”

Keynote speakers are Lilian Kao, MD, acute care surgery division director at UT Health
Houston, U.S. Navy Commander Shane D. Jensen, MD, program director for acute care

TRC4 was established by The University of Texas System Board of Regents. The TRC4
mission is to integrate efforts that will transform trauma care both on the battlefield and in the
civilian sector, resulting in dramatic improvements in survivability. This mission will be
accomplished through research, training, and clinical partnership and support. Based at UT
Health Science Center San Antonio (UT Health San Antonio) and on behalf of the UT System,
the TRC4 will facilitate, and fund groundbreaking interinstitutional collaborative basic, clinical,
and translational research between UT institutions and the Department of Defense (DoD) /
Defense Health Agency (DHA). This endeavor will provide significant economic and business
opportunities for Texans by leveraging both state and federal funding sources.
